Cultural Arts & Preservation – Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring Change
Cultural Arts & Preservation at Indigenous House is where heritage comes alive through performance, storytelling, and visual expression. From our founder Douglas “Pharoah” Stewart’s powerful one-man play to gallery exhibitions and community performances, each event is an act of cultural reclamation—celebrating ancestral wisdom while addressing the impacts of displacement, racism, and cultural erasure.
We serve Black, Indigenous, and communities of color in Oakland and beyond—particularly youth, elders, artists, and culture bearers. Our programs also create intergenerational spaces that welcome people across gender, sexuality, and ability, fostering belonging and cross-cultural understanding.
